UCSF is proud to offer summer research opportunities for undergraduate and master’s students in the health sciences. College students planning to earn a PhD in the field spend up to 10 weeks working with UCSF faculty members on research projects. Students selected for summer research at UCSF will participate in seminars, lectures, and social events, creating a cohesive community of student researchers. At the end of the program, students will submit abstracts and give presentations of their research. Make sure to look at these important dates and deadlines.
PROGRAMS
Although the funding sources for these programs vary, students in the following programs will participate primarily as a single group.
Summer Research Training Program (SRTP)
The SRTP provides research opportunities in the biomedical and biological sciences. Students are supported in these programs by funds from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Genentech, the University of California Office of the President, and UCSF Graduate Division.
Molecular Biosciences Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)
The REU program combines an outstanding laboratory research experience with activities designed to foster scientific communication to facilitate a transition to graduate school. Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Amgen Scholars Program
The Amgen Scholars Program provides summer research opportunities at UCSF for undergraduates in science and biotechnology. In addition to the summer research experience, participants will join other Amgen Scholars from across the country at a symposium, at which they will share their summer experiences.
Graduate Group in Biophysics
The Graduate Group in Biophysics offers you the opportunity to sharpen your research skills and enhance your graduate applications. In addition to laboratory research, our interns will participate fully with the Summer Research Training Program (SRTP) for a comprehensive summer experience.
The application deadline for Summer 2010 is February 2, 2010.
