IRACDA Scholars in Science (ISIS) Fellowship

The IRACDA/ISIS Postdoctoral Fellowship is a partnership between UC San Francisco and San Francisco State University (SFSU), which aims to:

1) provide an extensive mentored research experience with a top-ranked Principal Investigator at UCSF, a world-renowned medical and scientific research institution;

2) create an intensive mentored teaching experience with a Master Teacher at SFSU, a minority-serving institution;

3) present postdoctoral scholars seeking an academic career that combines research and teaching with career-enhancing professional development opportunities.

The ISIS Program offers qualified scholars 4 years of support. In the first year, fellows concentrate on gaining laboratory experience through intensive mentored research with a top-ranked Principal Investigator at UCSF. They also begin to learn about pedagogy through the UCSF's Preparing Future Faculty Summer Series. In year two of the Program, scholars participate in several workshops coordinated by SFSU, where they choose the discipline in which they will teach and are paired with an SFSU teaching mentor. In year three of the Program, ISIS scholars begin a more formal teaching apprenticeship with their SFSU mentor, including preparing and delivering lectures. In the fourth year of the Program, fellows return to laboratory research as a top priority. They also attend career development workshops and take part in an invited research seminar series.
