Program Objectives

The IRACDA/ISIS Postdoctoral Fellowship is a partnership between UC San Francisco and San Francisco State University (SFSU), which aims to:

1) provide an extensive mentored research experience with a top-ranked Principal Investigator at UCSF, a world-renowned medical and scientific research institution;

2) create an intensive mentored teaching experience with a Master Teacher at SFSU, a minority-serving institution;

3) present postdoctoral scholars seeking an academic career that combines research and teaching with career-enhancing professional development opportunities.

The ISIS Program offers qualified scholars 4 years of support. In the first year, fellows will concentrate on gaining laboratory experience through intensive mentored research with a top-ranked Principal Investigator at UCSF. They will also begin to learn about pedagogy through the UCSF's Preparing Future Faculty Summer Series. In year two of the Program, scholars will participate in several workshops coordinated by  SFSU, where they will choose the discipline in which they will teach and be paired with an SFSU teaching mentor. In year three of the Program, ISIS scholars will begin a more formal teaching apprenticeship with their SFSU mentor, including preparing and delivering lectures. In the fourth year of the Program, fellows will return to laboratory research as a top priority. They will also attend career development workshops and take part in an invited research seminar series.

The UCSF ISIS Postdoctoral Fellowship Program began in 2007 and is actively seeking  applicants for postdoctoral positions beginning in late summer/early fall 2009. Although there is no strict deadline for applications, scholars are strongly encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible.
