Responsible Conduct of Research

On May 25, 2004, the UCSF Academic Senate Committee on Educational Policy sent a proposal for a web-based training program entitled, "UCSF Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Training Program" to the Chair of the Academic Senate, Leonard Zegans, MD. The proposed program would provide mandatory training for incoming postdoctoral scholars as well as new and junior faculty. The proposed training would cover areas such as research misconduct; data management; use of animal subjects; use of human subjects; conflicts of interest and commitment; authorship; publication and peer review; collaboration, mentoring, and professional conduct (including issues related to sexual and professional harassment). The implementation of this training program will provide a single, formal training mechanism to provide comprehensive training for future scientists and researchers at UCSF on what they need to know in order to responsibly conduct research. Futher information will be forthcoming during academic year 2004-05. For details go to: http://www.ucsf.edu/senate/2003-2004/f-EDUP-2003-04-AnnualR-Ap02.pdf
