The Faculty Development Initiative is proud to announce the launch of the Faculty Mentor Training Program (MTP), a comprehensive, online program designed to train faculty to be effective mentors.
The recently updated MTP, led by Dr. Mandana Khalili, Director of Faculty Development, GEPA, is a formal and comprehensive program designed to train the faculty to become confident and more effective research mentors and is fully aligned with NIH requirements for mentor training. The program consists of 5 self-paced online modules and 3 in-person group sessions to review materials and provide additional tools. The course is delivered over a 6-week period. Each self-paced session includes the following instructional materials:
- Course outline
- Recorded lectures with synchronized slides
- Reading materials
- Learning exercises
- Course assessments
- Discussion forums
The training module components include:
- Mentorship from the Beginning, Mentoring Models, Mentoring Stages
- Mentoring for All
- Sponsorship
- Aligning Goals and Expectations, Effective Communication, and Fostering Independence
- Conflict Resolution
The next MTP course will be offered in from Oct. 23 to Dec. 4, 2025. The required in person-sessions will take place on Oct. 23, Nov. 5, and Dec. 4 from 3-5 p.m. at Mission Bay. Keep an eye on your inbox- registration links will be emailed to faculty in Fall 2025!
