The Graduate Student Affairs team offers a range of classes for graduate students in various phases of their training. The team also manages UCSF's Summer Research Training Program (SRTP) and the NIGMS-funded Initiative for Maximizing Student Development (IMSD).


Classes

GRAD 202: Racism in Science

Offered to all first-year PhD students in the basic sciences, this introductory course provides the historical background of systemic racism in scientific research, with a particular emphasis on anti-Black racism.

GRAD 210: Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Academic Leadership

The goal of this 10-week service learning course is to bring together training in justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) and leadership to prepare UCSF graduate students to incorporate JEDI values in scientific leadership roles.

GRAD 219: Research on Racism in Science Mini-Courses

Taught each spring by advanced PhD students in UCSF's Social and Population Sciences programs, these mini-courses build on the lessons of GRAD 202 by providing opportunities for reading and discussion around a more specific topic. Open to first-year students.
