Taking a cue from the white coat ceremonies featured in the professional schools, the candidacy ceremony is intended to celebrate PhD students who’ve advanced to candidacy in the past year by marking this important transition to the next phase of their academic journey.UCSF Grad Slam 2026

At our popular Grad Slam event, 7-10 PhD student finalists will present their research in three minutes or less, in language accessible to a general audience. It's a celebration of graduate research at UCSF and of scientific inquiry.GEPA Commencement 2026

We look forward to celebrating this major milestone with our master's and PhD students, their families and friends, and with our faculty and staff at UCSF, who also take great pride in our students' accomplishments. The ceremony will also be live streamed via YouTube.
