The 2023 Graduate Division Commencement Ceremony will take place on Friday, May 19, at 11 a.m. at the beautiful Herbst Theatre, in the Veterans Building at 401 Van Ness Avenue in downtown San Francisco! We look forward to celebrating this major milestone with our graduate students, their families and friends, and with our faculty and staff at UCSF, who also take great pride in our students' accomplishments.
About 150 PhD and master's students from 20 graduate programs are scheduled to participate in the ceremony.

This year's commencement speaker is Charles S. Craik, PhD, professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the UCSF. Dr. Craik is the founder and former director of the Chemistry and Chemical Biology Graduate Program and is Associate Director of Translational Research and co-director of the Molecular Oncology Program in the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. He received his education and training in Chemistry at Allegheny College (BS), Columbia University (PhD) and UCSF (postdoctoral research). Since joining the UCSF faculty, his research interests have focused on defining the roles and the mechanisms of enzymes, protein degradation machinery, receptors, membrane transporters and other challenging proteins in complex biological processes and on developing technologies to facilitate these studies. Craik is a council member of the American Association of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
