We are pleased to announce that two UCSF postdoctoral scholars and two PhD students were recently named UC President's Lindau Nobel Meeting Fellows for 2021.
Begun seven decades ago, today the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting brings together 600 university students and postdoctoral fellows from around the world who spend one week absorbing lectures by Nobel Laureates and interacting with them in smaller groups to discuss their own research. The meeting will concentrate on the fields of Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, and Physiology, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary research. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 70th Lindau Interdisciplinary Nobel Laureate Meeting (June 27 - July 2) will be a hybrid event featuring fewer onsite attendees and many more participating virtually from around the world, with an emphasis on creating opportunities for interactive exchange for all.
These four learners were nominated by the Graduate Division Dean's Office in the fall of 2020 based on demonstrated excellence and engagement in their field of research, enthusiastic support from advisers and mentors, and evidence of their commitment to interdisciplinary scientific work. They were selected by Lindau and an advisory group appointed by the UC President from a UC system-wide pool of nominees, and will join other UC learners plus hundreds of young scientists from all over the world participating in this year's meeting.
