Five UCSF graduate students – Osama Ahmed, Florie Charles, Nir Oksenberg, Argenta Price, and Marta Wegorzewska – and Christin Chong, a postdoc, together have taken first prize in FASEB’s second annual Stand Up for Science video competition.
The Science Policy Group at UCSF, a student and postdoc-led organization, has recently released the results of a survey they administered in October entitled “Survey of Federal Budget Sequestration Effects on Laboratory Trainees at UCSF.”
The survey looked at how the across-the-board US federal budget reductions, commonly known as “sequestration,” have affected graduate students and postdocs at UCSF since the budget cuts were first implemented in March of 2012.
In an outpouring of support for basic science education, all 20 clinical chairs at UC San Francisco’s School of Medicine have banded together to provide $1.5 million to an endowment intended to ensure UCSF’s PhD research program thrives in the face of an increasingly constricted scientific funding environment.
The Graduate Division owes a lot to the brains and hard work of Rosenberg-Hill and Graduate Division Research Fellows, who conduct studies that will benefit graduate students and postdocs at UCSF for years to come.
