Course Evaluations for Students

Course evaluations enable students to provide honest and timely feedback for courses in which they were enrolled. Evaluations can cause some anxiety, particularly if students were enrolled in a challenging course. We want to be transparent about UCSF's course evaluation process and provide guidance about the type of information your faculty, program, and the Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs Dean's Office may access from each evaluation submitted.

FAQs

Q: I am worried my evaluations responses might impact the grade an instructor gives me.

A:  Evaluations are anonymous. Neither your instructor or any administrator will have any way of knowing who submitted any specific feedback (see next FAQ below). Additionally, the Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs Dean’s Office does not release evaluation reports until all course grades have been submitted to the Office of the Registrar.

Q: How is my anonymity protected?

A: There are no tools available in the Eval25 system for an administrator or faculty to match a set of responses with an individual student. In addition, neither system administrators nor faculty can see who completed an evaluation; they can see only how many students total have completed an evaluation. The Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs Dean’s Office has purposely chosen not to release responses from courses with an enrollment of fewer than four students.

In order to further safeguard your anonymity, please do not disclose personal or identifying information in any free-text responses on an evaluation.

Q: Can I review my responses before submitting an evaluation?

A: Yes. After a you have filled out an evaluation, you will be presented with a page to review your responses. On this review page you will have the option to go back and edit your responses or to proceed with submitting the evaluation.

Q: Can I begin responding to an evaluation and then return later to complete it?

A: Yes. You can begin an evaluation, save it, and return at a later time to finish it.

Q: Can I edit my responses before the evaluation close date?

A: Yes. You can edit responses up until the point the evaluation closes.

Q: How will I know if my responses to an evaluation have successfully been submitted?

A:  Once you submit an evaluation, you will be redirected back to your dashboard and will see a confirmation message at the top. The evaluation status will also be updated and the course information greyed out. An acknowledgement email will automatically be sent to the you at the end of the day.
