Assisting Students through Difficulties
As faculty and staff, you are often the first to know when a student is experiencing emotional or psychological distress. You are also in a unique position to give such students supportive guidance and help them identify university resources for assistance.
With this in mind, Student Mental Health and Wellbeing (SMHW) has prepared helpful information for faculty and staff called Assisting Students in Distress.
Every spring, Student Mental Health and the Graduate Division also team up to offer a discussion group aimed at helping faculty and staff be better prepared to assist students in distress. Watch your inbox for announcements about the next session.
UCOP has published a handbook and training resource for promoting student mental health system wide.
Finally, please make sure that your students are aware of the personal and academic support resources listed on the Graduate Division website.
