Graduate Division, additional units unite under new banner: Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs

In an effort to provide expanded support to UCSF’s learners and postdoctoral scholars, the Graduate Division, Office of Postdoctoral Services, International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO), and the Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD) will unite collectively under a new name, the Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs (GEPA).

Previously, the Graduate Division and Student Academic Affairs were united under the leadership of Dr. Nicquet Blake, who served as vice provost of Student Academic Affairs and the dean of the Graduate Division.

With the appointment of Dr. John Davis as Vice Chancellor of the Office of Education and Student Affairs (OESA), formerly Student Academic Affairs, the two groups have transitioned to separate administrative units.

“This reorganization affirms our commitment to graduate education and recognizes the vital contributions of the division in supporting our postdoctoral scholars,” said Blake.

Students and campus partners may notice new logos and naming conventions but the same support and services they have come to expect will remain in place.

“I’m excited to begin this next chapter and remain confident in our continued commitment to supporting our students and learning communities,” Blake said.

The Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs (GEPA) is the home of graduate education; postdoctoral training; career and professional development; and international students and scholars at UCSF. We offer 20 PhD programs in basic, translational, and social/population sciences; 11 master’s degree programs; two professional doctorates, and several certificate programs. GEPA strives to help graduate programs grow and evolve to meet the changing demands of science and needs of society; to nurture an inclusive and supportive learning environment; and to ensure that every graduate student and postdoc at UCSF can look forward to a meaningful and personally satisfying career.
