Definitions
Academic: academic research and teaching appointments, including tenure-track and non-tenure track
Gov't: research in government agencies (e.g. NIH, NSF, etc.)
Research Inst: research in a non-profit setting, non-governmental organization, or research institute
Private Rsch/Cons: research or consulting position in the private sector
Medical: working in a health care center or in clinical practice (presumes a professional degree was also obtained)
Postdoc: in a postdoctoral research position at time data gathered
